Company History 

Watertown Mutual Insurance Company was organized and incorporated on November 13, 1872 and commenced business on November 29, 1872.  Watertown Mutual Insurance Company was authorized to write fire insurance in 4 townships.  There were 35 charter members with $49,070 insurance in force

 

Today Watertown Mutual Insurance Company has over 1700 policyholders, written premium over $1,000,000, and surplus over $1,700,000. We are authorized to write property and casualty insurance in 16 counties in southern Wisconsin.

 

In 1987 Watertown Mutual Insurance Company discontinued having the Board of Directors run the company on a day-to-day basis and hired a General Manager for this position.  Also in 1987 the first office building was purchased at 315 E Main St, Watertown, WI and the company is still at that location today.
